First Residents to Move Into Meredith’s Green Apts.
RALEIGH, N.C. — More than 200 juniors and seniors will move into Meredith College’s new student apartment complex. This is the first new residence facility to be built at Meredith since the early 1970s.
Meredith College recognized the importance of building the apartments in an environmentally friendly manner and is pursuing LEED certification for the building. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
Key elements being undertaken to achieve LEED certification include the following:
• dual flush toilets,
• “dark sky” friendly exterior light fixtures,
• drip irrigation,
• construction materials made from recycled products, and
• diverting construction waste from the landfill.
Moving day is Saturday, August 1 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The student apartments are located on the southwest quadrant of campus in front of Ledford Hall and behind the Science and Mathematics Building.
