Going green is on the minds of many political candidates. State Senator and Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan made a stop for the cause on her campaign trail in Pittsboro.

Hagan and Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota visited Piedmont Biofuels to learn more about renewable energy and the positive effect the facility has had on the community.

Hagan was asked a series of questions.  To hear her response click the video above.

Q: What was the purpose of your visit to the Piedmont Biofuels facility?

A: “I think the green industry and alternative fuels are really going to propel North Carolina in the next 10 years for job creation. It’s going to be a huge transformation to have that energy.”

Q: Do you think that the state of North Carolina is ahead of the game when it comes to renewable energy?

A: “Not only are we ahead of the game but we’re going to create thousands of new jobs in North Carolina and the key to these new jobs will not be outreached.”

Q: What are your plans for the future?

A: “I think what we got to do away with the $17 million incentives that we currently going to the oil companies.  Take those tax incentives and put them into renewable energy. I’ve been a big supporter of the Gang of Ten legislation talking about relooking at the automotive industry and off-shore drilling.”

The politicians received a tour of the facility from founder Lyle Estill before heading back on the campaign trail.
