Watch Where You Throw That Phone!
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

No, this isn’t a post about Naomi Campbell, although when it comes time to dish out for the newest, top of the line phone gadget, she may want to read this.

According to recyclemyphone.org, there are more than 500 MILLION used cell phones in the U.S. sitting around homes, or worse, in landfills! So instead of just letting them leak toxic chemicals into our Earth, recycle them and know you’re doing a good thing.

Recyclemyphone.org makes it easy to recycle your phone, PDA, pager, as well as the batteries and accessories that come with the phone.

And if you’re worried about your information in that phone, the site also has a program to help you clean out your device.

Also, if you don’t want to mail your phone away, Best Buy stores across the nation have recycling kiosks inside their stores where you can drop-off your phones.

So go ahead, get rid of your first cell phone you bought back in the 80’s, it’s just taking up space in that drawer anyways.

Green Funerals
Monday, January 7th, 2008

Go Green enthusiasts are making sure they’re green ’till the end. Maine is just one of many states across the U.S. that see green funerals a rising trend.

A green funeral means no preservative chemicals, no metal caskets, no concrete tombs. One article talks about how a family held a green funeral for their mother after she passed. They opted to not have a funeral  home take care of arrangements. Instead they made a wooden casket and held a wake for their mother in their home. Then they had her cremated and buried near their home. (read article here)

The Green Burial Council is a non-profit organization that “encourages ethical and environmentally sustainable deathcare practices”. They have lists of standards for natural and conservation cemeteries and funerals. Check out their website by clicking here.

‘Air Tree’ To Create Own Oxygen And Energy
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

A new structure being built in Madrid, Spain will create its own energy using solar panels, and is supposed to create oxygen like a tree. Oh yeah, it is also designed to be a social center, apparently for those who like to socialize around giant, tubular structures.
